Charming Italianate terraced gardens designed by Harold Peto in the early 20th century, filled with Mediterranean planting and ancient Roman statuary. The gardens form a picturesque backdrop to the Georgian manor house (private) and bridge, where Britannia stands guard over the River Frome. A tearoom and shop complete your visit. Iford Manor is a short walk down the peaceful Frome valley from Farleigh Hungerford Castle (see p19), which is also well worth a visit.
